Joyce Carol Oates is a famous American author who wrote and published Big Mouth and Ugly Girl in 2002, she was born on June 16 of 1938 in Lock port, New York. She decided to write a book about teenagers and their high school lives, which inspired her to write the novel we are creating this website on, Big Mouth & Ugly Girl.  She published her first book in 1963 and since then she has published over 40 novels, as well as a number of plays and poetry. She wrote the following novels The Accursed, Blonde, The Falls, Black Water, and a book called Them only to name a few. She also either starred in or directed the following movies, Foxfire, Smooth talk, getting to Know you, the Gathering Squall and more. She received many awards for her work, awards such as the Humanities Award, A stone award for lifetime literacy achievement, and the Henry Award only to name a few. Oates has any occupations from writing novels to directing movies to working as a professor. She is a member of the board of trustees for the John Simon Foundation.
